Plan A Week 1

Jesus’ Plan A

Begin with a short prayer, asking God to open your hearts and minds to His invitation to become apprentices of Jesus.

Read Matthew 28: 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Discussion Questions

1. Connect – Sharing Our Stories

The message reminded us that church was never Jesus’ Plan A—His plan was for us to become apprentices who live out His teachings. When you first heard the word “church,” what came to mind? How has your understanding of “church” changed over time?

2. Dig Deeper – Understanding Apprenticeship

Jesus’ final command in Matthew 28 was to “go and make disciples” (apprentices). In your own words, what does it mean to be an apprentice of Jesus? How does this differ from simply attending church services or programs?

3. Personal Application – Transformation

Apprenticeship means obeying Jesus teachings and practicing Hisway and practicin until both become our way of living. Which of Jesus’ teachings (e.g., loving enemies, generosity, forgiveness, truthfulness) do you find most challenging to put into practice right now? What might obedience look like in that area this week?

4. Community Application – Plan A Together

The Lead In emphasized that when we make apprentices, the church will follow naturally. What would it look like for our Table group to intentionally live out “Plan A” together in Belleville? Are there specific rhythms, practices, or ways of worship & serving others we feel called to commit to as a group?

Closing

Invite each person to answer: “What is one step I will take this week to live as an apprentice of Jesus?”

End with prayer for one another, asking for courage and joy as you follow Jesus’ way together.

Growth Opportunity: Remind everyone we’re spending time each week reading through John 15.
