These are sensitive topics and ones only engaged in a healthy, safe and caring community. We are praying your discussion this week is one that encourages everyone to take their next step at their individual speed.
Opening Scripture: John 20:24-31
How do you react to the fact that Jesus’ resurrection didn’t eliminate his scars?
What does this teach us about our own scars?(emotional/physical/spiritual)
Dr Merry opened the conversation Sunday by saying, “This not about pretending the past didn’t happen.”
What are the pro’s and con’s of pretending the past didn’t happen?
Dr Merry Provided us with Eight Steps:
Step 1: Face the problem.
Step 2: Understand your personal story and history.
Step 3: Gain insight about your experiences.
Step 4: Experience the feelings.
Step 5: Forgive and let go.
Step 6: Trace patterns of behaviour.
Step 7: Set healthy boundaries.
Step 8: Commit to the change process.
Take a moment and consider each step and ask:
Which one of these is a natural strength for me?
Which one is a natural weakness?
How might you grow stronger in that area?
Do you sense you’re open or closed to any and why?
In closing Pastor Wes shared how he believes our scars tell a story of what happened but do not have to write the ongoing story of who we are.
How do you react to this statement?
Are you open to receive prayer for healing your past hurt?
What might a resurrection in that area look like for you knowing the scar might remain?
